Fanless CPU Cooler for K7

speaking of cooling, me and my friend came up with an idea, which uses dried ice as CPU cooling, the only problem would be....how the heck would we be able to store dried ice..lol

You would most likely just put it in an enclousure on top of the cpu. I can think of three problems with that, though.

1) Condensation (nuff said)

2) Always need to replace dry ice

3) In order for the dry ice to contact the area where the core is, you'd need a desktop style orientation.

:o

I think I heard of a fanless solution for k7. But in all honesty a passive solution for k7 is a dream. Normal k7s produce too much heat to be well cooled by something passive. Even with the Tt cooler, it says you should have a 120mm fan behind it to get rid of the hot air. IMO that makes it an active cooler because there needs to be a fan there.

The fact is, the heat is going somewhere. Only with ample ventilation will you be able to get desirable temperatures. And with that ventilation comes more noise. So if your friend is looking for a passive cooler to keep noise down, have him/her keep in mind that he/she would just need more ventilation in their case.

If he is really hellbent on a passive cooler, have him take a look at getting a case with 120mm exhaust (Centurion!!) and then a PSU with a 120mm exhaust (RealPower!!!) But I currently have no suggestions on a passive cooler. They are tough to come by for k7

case ventilation wouldn't be much of a problem for him i guess, he has 2 120mm fans and 2 80mm fans on his side panel, 1 80 mm in front and on top, 1 120mm at the back...zalman eh..i'll tell him about that
