If my heatsink comes with a layer of thermal compound, is it enough or should I buy and add some more to it? After all, it only is a thin layer you get.

If you are going for the best, I will advise you to clean that layer of thermalgrease off, and go buy some Arctic Silver 5 or OCZ Ultra 5+.

Take Hybrid's advice. When you clean it, you should use a 100% non-static cloth and higher than 90% alcohol.

You can get the alcohol at a local Rite-Aid and it's called isopropyl rubbing alcohol. This is used to clean out the remaining thermal compound left in the small microscopic gaps on the core's surface.

Yes, see above... Your local 7-eleven will only offer you Ethanol that is 55% and ment for internal cleaning of belly and intestine.

Not good for heatsink.
