CoolerMaster Elite 110 Suggestions

Recommended Posts

I really like the CoolerMaster Elite 110 as a small-form-factor gaming system, especially with some of the current half-length graphics cards offerings (the Nvidia GTX 960 is a great all-rounder right now).

However, I have some suggestions that I think could turn it from a good case, into a great one:

  • Side Orientation: Currently the case is intended to be mounted in one orientation only, however this orientation is the widest, and places the optional fans at the side. I think a more useful option would be to mount it on its right side (the side without fan mounts) as this would not only give the case a slightly narrower profile, but also orient the optional fans towards the top. This would require that the side without fan-mounts be reinforced and either have feet on it as well, or have the feet as separate pieces that can be installed as required.
  • Support SFX PSUs: Fairly self explanatory, but with the limited size inside the case, the much shorter (12.5cm) SFX PSUs are a perfect fit. ATX to SFX adaptor plates are pretty cheap, so installing an SFX PSU in this case is already possible, but it would be nice to see the case include a bracket that matches its finish, as most third party pieces are plain metal. SFX PSUs come in ample capacities, as even 400W should do for a system this size, and I believe there are even higher capacities available now. SFX PSUs are actually also pretty reasonably priced now, so it might even make sense to just use them exclusively, as the smaller size could allow the case to slim down further, or allow a re-oriented SFX PSU slot to leave more room for rear airflow.
  • Support a Carrying Handle: I love smaller systems for their portability, and a system in this case would be ideal for LAN parties if it were even easier to carry. Of course there are carrying straps that can be used for this purpose, but they require care to prevent them sliding off. What I'd really love to see is some kind of optional carrying handle. The easiest way to do this would be create a standard carrying handle for small-form factor cases that can grip the case through a set of slots in the top panel (or panels with side orientation support), with suitable reinforcement (e.g - a bar on the chassis for the handle to lock around). Some systems do exist whereby a two-part, hinged handle will "grip" round such a bar when the two parts and held together in one hand. This needn't be bundled, as a standard handle accessory could be used to carry multiple case models once they've been adapted with suitable slots.
  • Magnetic Front Panel: I know it might be a little more expensive, but I don't think it's unreasonable to pay more for quality in a small chassis, and having the front mesh panel fitted magnetically would make it significantly easier to change filters or to clean the front panel itself.

Support for side-orientation and the optional carrying handle could be done by making the side without fan mounts fixed (non-removable). While it would reduce accessibility somewhat, this shouldn't be a problem as long as the PSU can be installed from above, as the cables can be routed before it's fixed in place.

Hi

Please make new version of cooler master elite 110 (max 15 liters)

  • PSU support only SFX-L and SFX (because many sfx-l models 600-800W in 2017)
  • Front support up to 200mm big fan
  • Front hole for long GPU's next to the fan.
  • Removable Filters for every fan and GPU side.
  • Sound dampening every side of the panels.
  • Lift up PSU to gain more space for CPU cooler (air intake from outside with filter)

Thanks

PSU could be below motherboard for easier access to motherboard.
motherboard could be vertical for easier access to back of motherboard which would require 3 slots in order GPU wouldn't be overheating

Add eSATA support. Two places would be great: one in the back (for external disks like a backup disk that must be always connected except when, in an emergency, it must be disconnected -like a fire-), and another one in the front, for disks that would be connected temporarily. Of course, it is not needed to sell the connector itself, I think it is enough to have the hole made, and let us buy the connector and mount it if we need it.

There is enough space for that: in this picture I show the ideal places for the front ones (in red) and the back ones (in green). Also show my own hack for adding eSATA and a card reader (there is enough room too for a short one).

Hi coolermaster, my name is Daniel from Singapore.

My fist computer was built was in your N series N200 windowed it has lasted thru the 5 years beautifully.

Now I'm going to upgrade my Haswell system to a Ryzen system and I plan to do it in one of your smallest cases, I got my hands on your classic Elite 110s (mesh front) via newegg.sg

I hope you will launch an updated version of the elite 110, here are a few things you could improve on

A finer mesh for the front (with rgb power button).

Mesh filters for exhaust/intake points.

Extended length for gpu with twin fans.

Move the store side plate on gpu side to opposite side.

Thank you

Another simple update is to allow wider motherboards: I have a gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H which nearly fits (just for two millimetres), but cutting the left panel with a dremel fixed the problem.

I am glad this topic exists. I have made some super simple modifications to my elite 110 which should really be features of the base model. Nothing other than a simple bracket needs to be included for sfx PSU compatibility. Similarly another 2.5" Ssd can be hung between the PSU and the side of the case with a very minimal strip of plastic and 4 screws.  I have enlarged the hole at the front of the case to allow for GPU longer than 210mm (265mm maximum with front panel).

Currently my build is a i7 4770, 16GB 1600mhz ddr3, rx580 8GB, 6TB 3.5" hdd, 1TB 2.5" hdd, 500GB 2.5" ssd boot drive. Looking to hang a 1TB ssd for games.

I removed my front USB although thos is largely compatible with most GPU. Being able to mount front IO on both and/or either side would be a great improvement. Likewise the card reader seen earlier in this thread is an amazing idea. Top USB makes more sense, I wouldn't say no to all 3 edges of the front panel having usb... if it were an integrated usb hub with minimal wiring, something that can easily be unplugged from the rest of the computer when the front panel is removed would be ideal.

I installed a slim DVD drive between the top drives and PSU, it sticks out the rear of the case.

I'm installing additional rear mounted USB ports between the mobo and PSU on the rear panel.

Likewise I am installing 2 antenna for an internal usb3 wifi stick with detachable antenna from Aliexpress.  I also got a cheap USB video capture stick with Svideo and 3xRCA, I am going to have these exposed between the motherboard IO and the PSU. Lots of fittings and connectors are required for this one

I want a handle. Installed by default, attached to the outer shell, easy to remove.

Thick, spring loaded so it doesn't flap against the case. Padded grips. Something like this BUT NOT RECESSED LIKE THE ELITE 130 HANDLE VIDEO... my internal case volume is important

I have a 3.5" hdd hung next to the GPU, I cut away most of the metal impeding airflow to the GPU, whilst the hdd blocks 20% of one fan it is not major. An additional few millimeters of clearance would be appreciated in a future revision.

Now let's talk about the bottom of the case.  Better/bigger feet would be nice, I lost mine.

A removable panel granting access to m.2 sodimm and CPU cooler mounting would be a huge improvement. Bottom mounted PSU could be hit or miss; whilst i wouldn't call a case that has it a direct successor to the 110, it would be an interesting product either way.

As pictured earlier in the thread, support for  oversized motherboards would be great, along with triple slot GPUs, a 3rd rear slot can be used for numerous things even on itx where there isn't a corresponding expansion son slot on the motherboard. uATX support might  be going too far. Unless it fits in the current dimensions with at most minimal retooling then it's best left for an entirely new case. Then again as  Rastersoft has shown 3 slots fits flawlessly. A 3rd slot would be perfect. The majority of these suggestions made by myself and others will make a refresh of the elite 110 appeal to an even wider audience than ever before.

A hint of support for custom water loops would be appreciate. Whilst I dont expect it to be compatible with a build as cramped as mine, maybe someone wants just a GPU,CPU,sfxpsu,m.2 and custom loop.

I installed my PSU "upside down" to ensure the area around the CPU gets adequate ventilation with the closed loop water cooler. The manual did not advise for or against this.

Overall it's been a great case and I'd  highly recommend it to anyone willing to make a hole for a bigger GPU. You really get screwed out of the best new and used deals when looking for a value upgrade with max length of 210mm. 265mm gives so much more freedom.

I love the ample cable routing opportunities. I bought 90* adaptors for usb3.0 header and atx 12v so they come out of the case at the front under the radiator
