CM Storm Sirus 5.1 buzz/noise/static from usb power

Recommended Posts

Good day,

I just purchased the above mentioned headset and found that the minute usb is plugged in the headphones get extremely irritating buzzing/static/white noise.

I tried connecting the headset directly using the 3.5mm jacks(without using the "puck") and it worked fine, no noise...until I once again plugged in the usb which comes with the jacks and the noise starts again.

PSU is a Corsair H1100 (I think...) which is plugged into a surge protector.
I did try plugging the headset into a laptop and the noise persisted...even if the power cord is out...

As long as an USB is connected, the noise is there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nox,

First off welcome to the Cooler Master community.

We sincerely apologize for the trouble you are getting with the Sirus.  May I ask, where did you purchase the headset from? May I ask, where are you located?  It does sound like the headset warrants a replacement.

Bought it from Germany and I'm in Croatia.

Due to the absurd shipping prices which would account for over half the price of the headset itself, return is simply not an option.

I don't think the headset is faulty. The reason being, it works fine on 3.5mm jacks and this is an issue I have experienced with other usb headsets as well.

At the moment I have the Plantronics 4-Something Something which came with the usb extension option and if I utilize it, the same thing happens with them.

Perhaps there's an adapter or an USB hub whose job is to clear up power noise? Does such a thing exist?

I'm having the same problem. Occassional buzzing sound. But there appears to be a conflict with something else, ever since I upgraded to WIndows 8.1 PRO 64 bit. I un installed the Windows 7 drivers and then did a clean install using the 8.1 drivers from Coolermaster. Now I still get the buzzing sound AND a very garbled mixture of insane sounds. Please advise.

Hi Geertjan,

Can you tell me a bit more? Are you using the Sirus audio controller or the 3.5mm jacks?

Thanks! Pim

Hi GeertjanNL,

This could be a system grounding issue. If the PSU is providing high noise to system then it could cause static and in some cases it may be a puck issue but you've mentioned trying the 3.5mm jacks. Please try and test this on another computer to see if something is not grounded properly in this case.

Bump..

I'm having the same problem. I bought this headset a few months ago and it worked great until today. When using the 3.5mm, everything is ok.

When using the two USB and the puck, I get a horrible static noise that drowns out all other sound.

During some troubleshooting, I noticed that the static goes away if I switch from 5.1 to quadraphonic or stereo. It only happens when in 5.1 mode.

5.1 mode worked just yesterday without issue. The static is only present when the PC has audio output.

For example, when watching a youtube video the entire video is drowned out by the static/white noise. If I close the browser mid-video,

the headset is silent. If this was a grounding fault issue, the static would be present all the time, no?

I've tried all USB ports on this PC's MoBo and the case USBs on the front - same behaviour across the board.

I tried it in my wife's laptop - same behaviour.

I purchased this set from NCIX.com

I'm running Win 7

i7 4790K

Nvidia Geforce GTX 780Ti

16GB RAM
