[Official] Nepton Owner's Club

Recommended Posts

Hello to everyone on CM Community, may you all have a nice day today.

Last night I bought myself a Cooler Master Nepton 280L to replace my CM TPC 812 which failed to cool my FX-9350 even with 2 Corsair SP120 fans. After installation, I immediately tested my CPU, stressing it with Prime95 and I immediately liked my results. HWMonitor reports an idle temperature between 20C-40C (which is almost room temperature for my country) and a fully stressed run of Prime95 at just 60C, in comparison to the 78C-81C that I got from the TPC 812, which includes massive downclocks. And the stock fan isn't too noisy when I placed it on Silent mode in my BIOS. Just pop open a game (tested Far Cry 4) and I didn't hear anything anymore, so I'm fine with the cooler. However, there are two issues that slightly bothered me with it.

1. The fan pump spins at an RPM too high, hovering between 6.6k and 6.8k RPM. Is it supposed to do that? I read some forum somewhere that suggested a user of the same CLC to plug it on the CPU fan header with a casing fan's low noise adapter to reduce the pump speed. I did this and it dropped to 4.7k RPM. Is this a good idea? Will this damage anything?

2. The fan speeds doesn't seem to change even when on load. It stayed at 1.2k RPM, having a difference of less than a hundred RPM when on load compared to idle. Is this correct? As mentioned above, I set it to Silent mode in BIOS, yet the RPM doesn't increase despite the load on the CPU. Is this normal? The 2xJetFlo 140mm fans are connected to the supplied fan header splitter and connected to my motherboard's (a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3) SYS_FAN1 header. The fans are set to a pull config with the rad in the casing and the fans outside because my casing didn't actually fit the entire rad assembly, though they still worked.

My specs if needed:

Corsair Carbide 200R

AMD FX-9350

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

Windows 8.1

CM VS750w

Palit 970 Jetstream

Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB 1600MHz

Kingston HyperX 3k SSD

WD Green 2TB,3TB,4TB

And of course, CM Nepton 280L with JetFlo140mm x 2

Pictures of my (extremely messy) setup later if needed.

Thank you for all those who read my problems.

Hello, unfortunately I became not a happy owner of Cooler Master Nepton 280L. I bought it to cool down my i7, to replace Thermalright HR-02 Macho.

Before on my Thermalright HR-02 Macho - Idle temp was 45-48C   after 1h prime95  60-65C

on Cooler Master Nepton 280L - Idle temp 50-58C   after 1h prime95 68-75C and more....

I have i7 2600k @4,5GHz v1.350, Nepton 280L mounted with 4 fans 140cm, another 4 fans 140cm in case (Define R4) 8 low noise fans in total, thermal paste MX-2 on CPU. Nepton 280L Mounted as advised here, checked 3 times and still same... Temp are too high!!!!

any advise?

Removed the plastic sticker from the heatblock?

Did you check the pump speed through your bios/program and confirm it is actually running?

You sure have a weird problem though, I am running a 2600k with a 120v rev2 @ 4,5 Ghz and idle temps are like 10 celcius above ambient temperature.

Yes, plastic sticker has been removed as first think before mounted on CPU. Pump is running at 7050-7100rpm

I followed the instructions and also I have check few other ways to mount and all same -there is no way drop temps below 51-52C :(

Hello,

Just finished building my new rig:

- CM Stacker 810 case (oldie but very happy with it :))

- MSI X99S MPOWER MB

- Intel i7 5820 tray

- G. Skill Ripjas 4 F4-3000C15Q-16GRR

- CM Nepton 120XL (fits nicely in the case)

- Asus Geoforce 970 4GB STRIX

- Samsung SSD XP941 128GB

I am impressed about the temperature of the processor, it stays between 33C and 54C (room 21C) after 2 hours of Farcry 3 @ high settings :D. That is way cooler than my previous setup. The only thing I am a little less happy about is the sound the water pump makes. It makes a sound a bit like a harddrive ticking. It is a bit anoying and it should not be doing it I think :(. I tried changing the RPM's but is stays steady at around 2640-2680. So right now I was wondering if there are more people with this problem and if there is a solution to it?

What thermal grease did you use? And make sure you only apply a really thin layer on the CPU. Can you try to re-apply and re-mount the CPU block?

Your temps are indeed on the high side. Btw, the radiator is on the front of your case? If so, is there sufficient airflow? What happens if you open the front door? (for testing purpose)

Im using Arctic Cooling MX-2, but today just ordered Zalman STG2. All day today have been fighting with that bloody CM Nepton trying re-apply and re-mount block and still the same (please have a look pics meaby doing something wrong)

There is no difference when front door are open or closed. All fans running at 5V, but when turned on full power 12V temp droping 1-2C - not much.

Does it make any difference if you turn the fans around and let them push the air outside the case?

At what speed is the pump running btw?

I checked it earlier and not big difference +1C

Pump its running now 7250-7300rpm

PS. when I touch the radiator, It has a room temperature, maybe the pump has air lock or something similar?

That's possible.

For testing purpose could try to mount the radiator in the top? (if that fits)
