  1. The DVD-box assembly process. Titan’s blower need to be modified - have to reduce its length and cut through inlets for intake air. Disassembly and cutting: Going back. Reposition the motor stator: Approximate position in DVD-box: Air inlet: Test assembly: Now I work in a bathroom too Prepare to sort components: My inspiration: Closer view:
  2. Let's continue table mount making process… Since intrigue failed - just a screenshot I don’t really know what is it. Something links to the security screens in the Combine armory. Billets for "legs" from the aluminum angle Front support for legs Cool stuff Frame complete
  3. To keep at least some element of intrigue, I will not specify which item from the world of Half Life 2 was the inspiration object Basic set of material … and a baby carriage ?! Not all of course, only covers from the wheels Cutting, sawing, drilling Meanwhile another staff - find a paint for outside surfaces
  4. Back to the “coffinâ€: Finally, after many hours of adjusting parts, video card housing installed on the guide mechanism and tested in action: Now assembled frame with cover just hard to hold in hands and there is no normal position for its storage, have to immediately make a table mount:
  5. Lets make front part of video card housing: Use an aluminum box-shaped profile: One of these turbines will be installed inside: So I have to give it a breath of fresh air, mark the holes: Drilling holes Ream a holes Use an aluminum darby: Hand made perforation: Top parts: Adhesive tape assembly: Front part: After a while: Cut away the needless edges and sanding: Final assembly:
  6. It's time to start making video card housing. 3D model it’s good, but need to check the actual layout and dimensions. Natural size mockup from cardboard: Place a video card inside: Cut from fiberglass side parts of the housing. Aluminum darby will determine the angle between the sidewall parts during assembly: Side parts assembly via pull-out rivets: Aluminum softer then fiberglass so its easy to flush rivet heads: Mark holes for GPU-fan intake air: Painting and assembling: Looks like a coffin
  7. Resizing furniture lattice for top vents: Grating attachments: Install grating on the side wall together with the exhaust turbine: The side walls painted inside at the same color as an aluminum frame:
  8. Fitting the lid sidewall: PSU and hinge determine case minimal width: Lid frame in progress: Case frame and lid together (not fixed yet): Lid front panel:
  9. Swivel lid will make from fiber-glass plastic. Marking: Ventilation holes contours marked trough laser printer paper copy and electric iron: However forgot to mirror the image (smile) Predrill: A hacksaw and needle files working result:
  10. As I wrote early, video card housing will slide back through the guide. Telescoping rail guide (from furniture set) need to be shortened at first: Both original and shortened guide: Close position: Open position: Fixing at mounting angles:
  11. It is time to prepare a little bit of aluminum sawdust. Start to make a MB rear panel cover. The top canopy at first: Then side parts: Testing: Side parts will be removable, attached with screws.
  12. It’s time to make a frame holder. The joint plate at first: Made from 1,5mm thickness steel: It attached to rear part of frame: Lets take a closer look at the mounting cantilever: It’s made from steel perforated plates and aluminum angles: Trapezium-shape part cut-off from box-shaped level tube by the actual size printed template (do you think it’s too big for mini-ITX case?) : Vee-type part in closer view: The video output extension cords and power cord will be tracked inside. Something like this:
  13. Its time to modify the low-profile Cooler Master Gemini II M4 CPU Despite the fact that is the lowest Cooler Master cooler, I have to make it even thinner. First, remove the fan, and tilt radiator: In rotate position heat pipes run into the capacitors and the cooler base not in contact to processor Need to raise the cooler on the heat sink: Tinkering heat sink and heat pipes, a second attempt To warm up the heat pipes cooler is placed in a container with boiling water on the gas stove Heat sink roasting Cooler assembled Modified CM Gemini II M4 tests on OCCT v.3.1.0: With stock fan - better then original! Passive –fail (even without load): With Titan TTC SC-04 blower That’s my choice:
  14. Graphics card and cooling system added for the sake of completeness: Now the PSU, MB & HDD fixed Dimensions check
  15. Trying on the motherboard with box CPU cooler (CM Gemini II M4 is not yet redy) Rear panel cutouts: Have to make cutouts for memory modules too: Frame assembly. The frame is almost ready, can place the hardware. Installing PSU: PSU cable assembly: Here is the secret ingredient - furniture hinge. “What for?†you can ask. The fact that the lid will be a separate structure that is rotated forward relative to the frame. Lid close position: Lid open position: So, a furniture hinge serves as a pivot joint. A video card housing will slide back through the guide:
  16. To initiate the process make a power supply unit angular mounts: Adjust the attachment holes and fan cut-out: Time to handle a framework. The problem is that the case almost have no right angles, all surfaces are sloped - will have some fun The pair of rear frame’s profiles: Manual bending: Angle revision: Forming the rear side of the frame: HDD mountings: Mid frame profiles cutting:
  17. The main inspiration object is Combine Ceiling Turret: So I’ve plane to make the case not in the style of the game but highest possible close to original source. Also inspiration objects - Alliance turrets: Layout 2D layout: Comments are unnecessary - all self-explanatory 3D layout: The frame going to make from aluminum angle bars, side panels - glass-fiber plastic, and the rest during the process.
  18. Hi everyone. I am an entry-level modder from Ukraine and this is my second modding project. I have no sponsors, so project budget is limited and hardware is not state-of-the-art. CONCEPT If you ever play Half Life 2, you have to remember Alliance turrets. This project will be a console type PC, with optional table mounting. Not an exact copy, but very close to the original ceiling turret. And maybe it will looks like a HL3 turret, who knows? So let’s start making a Combine Turret. Here is the hardware list: CPU cooler: Cooler Master Gemini II M4 MB: Gigabyte H55N-USB3 CPU: Intel i3-550 MEM: Hynix DDR3 2x2G 1333MHz CL9 PSU: Flex-ATX Seasonic SS-250SU GPU: Asus HD5770 512Mb GDDR5 HDD: SATA 160Gb Samsung SpinPoint F1 8Mb DVD: DVD-RW SATA Sony Nec Optiarc AD-7690H (slim slot-in) CASE: full custom (picture is not available now)
  19. Well, mod finished, tomorrow it goes for gold You've already seen the whole process of mod creation (I hope), therefore, will no longer surprises - only the new photos of known elements: And after all, some full-size photos (caution, traffic!): http://s53.radikal.ru/i142/1105/48/f78a0beef088.jpg http://s014.radikal.ru/i327/1105/c3/880a3a0b3410.jpg http://s006.radikal.ru/i214/1105/03/00152db89947.jpg http://s59.radikal.ru/i164/1105/a6/0ff2dd50999a.jpg http://s015.radikal.ru/i333/1105/a9/075d95d148a8.jpg http://s41.radikal.ru/i091/1105/11/a70442900239.jpg http://s57.radikal.ru/i158/1105/76/498d8eb325a0.jpg http://s013.radikal.ru/i324/1105/a0/6867e59da3c8.jpg http://s44.radikal.ru/i103/1105/8e/b9ac666aaaad.jpg http://s45.radikal.ru/i109/1105/9a/2abb3e987c14.jpg http://s41.radikal.ru/i092/1105/31/eebef6306b0b.jpg http://s012.radikal.ru/i320/1105/4d/1f5b08ead712.jpg http://s55.radikal.ru/i148/1105/46/b45e84d7a4ef.jpg http://s61.radikal.ru/i174/1105/12/21b28aaf5eae.jpg http://s50.radikal.ru/i128/1105/1e/8c60d1703b65.jpg http://i065.radikal.ru/1105/d0/60bfd6f7b7eb.jpg See you next time!
  20. Roller bracket holder made from table lamp leg: Try on roller block Have to adjust by height – remove one nut: Assemble and install everything in place: Tomorrow will be general cleaning and a final photosession.
  21. Mount guide pipe on the CD’s container holder: Prepare components for roller bracket: Well, the rollers block itself:
  22. In addition with the main works decide to restore order in the wires At first to fix metal hose from the “control panel†Choose the details: Quick assembly:
  23. Secure shields on places: Since the furniture hinges retained its open/close function, shields may be in three positions. First, fully open: Second, fully close: And third, intermediate position, relatively stable: Looks better in an intermediate position for me: It is true that shields in general are not very noticeable, you need to look closely. Too sad… :
  24. Make the improvised clamps: Fix the clamps on the shields: Assembled as an examples in other hose clip:
  25. Guide arm will made from ½ inch pipe for mixer tap and piece of solid aluminum wire 35mm2 cross section: Insert wire in a pipe (for rigidly) and bend on sketching: With a fine file made a notch for drilling: Centering for drilling by self-tapping screw: While drilling holes, I press down the guide arm by wooden bar: Take a look at rollers. As a blank a tension pulley block with guide rollers was chosen: But roller profile not confirm with pipe diameter: Have to turn the roller in drill driver:
